Philippine Ethnic Patterns: A Design Sourcebook is a magnificently illustrated book, complied by Dr. Jesus Peralta and published by the Philippines Government. It is considered to be the Bible of ethnic patterns of the Philippines covering textiles, ceramics, wood and bamboo carving, and it is out of print! It is nearly impossible to find in North America, especially in new and unread condition. With hundreds of black and white illustrations as well as dozens of black and white and color plates, it provides tattoo artists and designers with many new forms of inspiration. A tribal map provides context where the designs originate from and each design is attributed to its specific Indigenous society; a glossary of terms complete the book. This book is so important that it is currently (Jan. 2024) on display at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Manila) in the exhibition “50 Years of Philippines Design & Beyond.”
